1. SULAIR News Has Moved to Drupal!

This is the last issue of SULAIR News published via http://sulairnews.stanford.edu.  Please submit your next SULAIR News article via drupal at:

http://lib.stanford.edu/sulairnews/

Moving SULAIR News to drupal makes it easier to submit articles and to maintain the publication. Instead of submitting articles for a weekly issue, you can submit articles daily. Once you've submitted your article and the SULAIR News editor has reviewed it, it will be published on the new SULAIR News site (usually by the next working day after it has been submitted, at the latest).

We will continue to send out a weekly email announcement each Wednesday. (The first one will be distributed on Wednesday, October 7.)  It will include the linked titles of all articles published since the previous Wednesday. You can also set up an RSS Feed for SULAIR News articles, so you can see any new articles as they are published.

The SULAIR News drupal site includes instructions on how to submit an article and how to be notified about new articles. It also includes a Back Issues page that links to previous issues of SULAIR News.

Please give us feedback on how you like the new site and let us know if you have any questions. Just send email to eleanor.brown@stanford.edu.

2. Reference Forum - Friday, October 23, 10-11AM - Advanced PsycINFO Webinar

Please join us for a special Reference Forum on PsycInfo via CSA Illumina. It will be held on Friday, October 23, from 10-11 in the SSRC. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

The American Psychological Association is pleased to invite you to attend a PsycINFO Webinar. This 1-hour Advanced Training session will detail the coverage and selection practices, the structure of the database, and annual reloads. The session reviews the structure of PsycINFO records, covering the elements of the bibliographic citation, controlled vocabulary and indexing, and value-added fields, such as author affiliation, grant/sponsorship, and tests and measures. Sample searches will demonstrate searching using the online thesaurus, author and journal indexes, natural language or keywords, and fields and limits. For date and time information, please see below.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand PsycINFO content and structure.
  • Become familiar with PsycINFO record structure and indexing practices.
  • Learn how to use field values and limits effectively.
  • Know how to create precise search strategies and manage results.
Audience: This session is ideal for subject specialists, reference librarians, and instructors who provide support for the behavioral sciences. It will cover in-depth information about PsycINFO content and structure, as well as how to build efficient search strategies to obtain scholarly literature and enhance the research process.

If you would like to be on the email distribution list for future Reference Forum announcements, please go to https://mailman.stanford.edu/mailman/listinfo/libref-forum and Subscribe to the list.

3. *** Reference Question of the Week ***

Question: What are the procedures for printing and copying in the libraries?

Answer: The procedures vary depending on whether you are a student, a faculty or staff member, or a visitor.

Students: Students can pay for photocopying and printing through the StanfordCardPlan. Students who do not sign up for the StanfordCardPlan, or who have exceeded the StanfordCardPlan limit, can pay for printing by using the Visitor procedures described below. Students CANNOT add money to their Stanford ID cards via the Cash-to-Card machines.

Faculty and Staff: Stanford Faculty and Staff CAN add money to their Stanford ID Card to pay for printing and photocopying at one of the Cash-to-Card machines listed below.

Visitors: Visitors can buy a Print/Copy Card for $1, and then add money to their Card using the Cash-to-Card machines listed below. These machines accept $1, $5, $10 and $20 dollar bills and function as a kind of reverse ATM.

Cost: Printing is $.10 per page. Photocopies are $.13 per page ($.15 per page at coin-operated photocopiers).

Cash-to-Card machines:

* Note: The Cash-to-Card machines in Jackson, Math & Computer Science, Swain Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, and Physics libraries are older machines that do not accept most newer bills.

You can find more reference questions and answers at the Information Center Web site.

To contribute to the Reference Question of the Week feature of SULAIR News, submit your question and answer in the new SULAIR News drupal site http://lib.stanford.edu/sulairnews/.
