2. Julie Cain Leaving Engineering Library
Julie Cain will be leaving the Engineering Library on February 15, 2008 for a position as the Project Coordinator for the Stanford University's Director of Heritage Services and the Land Use and Environmental Planning (LUEP) Office. This position is ideal for Julie and combines her interest in history, the history of Stanford and the history of Stanford's grounds and buildings.
Julie has worked in academic libraries for almost 30 years and started her career at Jackson Library in 1978. From 1984 to 1999, Julie held several positions within Meyer when it was the undergraduate library, including Loan Desk Supervisor, Head of Reserves and Operations Manager. When Meyer was closing as an operating library, she moved across the Bay to an operations manager role at the Environmental Design Library at UC Berkeley from 1999 to 2001. Julie returned to the Stanford Libraries as Operations Manager for the Engineering Library in September of 2001.
Julie will be missed by many departments within SULAIR including the Engineering Library, the other SERG branches, Unicorn Planners and the EP group. Lucky for us she is just moving across campus and we expect to still see her researching in the library and "around the quad."

3. Physics Library Operations Manager Moving On
Krishna Mini Guptan, Operations Manager of the Physics Library, is moving on. Mini's years at Stanford began in 2003, first working in Gifts & Exchange and then with successively increasing levels of responsibility in Ordering, Serials Receiving, and finally with us in the Physics Library. As Mini reflected on her Stanford career, her admiration and respect for colleagues was apparent when she wrote, "I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all my former managers and colleagues for their overwhelming support and encouragement. It has been a wonderful experience and great pleasure to be a part of this prestigious institution."
Mini's future plans include being a full-time mom and providing administrative support for her husband's ventures. While everyone here at the Physics Library is very happy for her, Mini will be much missed. Her last day at Stanford is Tuesday, February 5th.
Please join me in wishing Mini much happiness in the next phase of her life.

4. ***Reference Question of the Week ***
Question: I am researching the life and work of
Alice Warren, an English printer in London in the 17th Century. When I
do an "IMPRINT" search for her name in either the ESTC or Early English
Books Online in the Databases, I get no more than about 8 items. I know that this can't be right. Is there somewhere else I can look?
Answer: You need to use the 4th volume of Wing's Short-Title Catalogue,
which cross-indexes all the printers and booksellers in Wing,
1641-1700. Checking Alice Warren in that volume, one sees that she was
also known as Alice Norton, and indicates that she was probably also
responsible for the imprints of the two John Nortons in the list, who
were her husband and son, respectively. Also, her listings under Alice
Warren [her second husband was Thomas Warren] are more numerous than
the 8 items you already have from ESTC and Early English Books Online.
This index also gives the bibliographic citations for the sources of
the biographical details included in the listings. There is a parallel
volume, which indexes the printers and booksellers for Pollard and Redgrave
[in Volume 3], covering imprints from 1475 to 1640. None of this
information is currently available in either the ESTC or Early English
Books Online.
You can find more reference questions and answers at the Information Center Web
site.
