As Fall Quarter begins, be sure to let your colleagues and our patrons know that there will be a Library Open House on Thursday, October 2, 2pm-6pm.
This year's Library Open House will take place in and around the Green Library East lobby. There will be tables and displays in front of Green Library and in the Green East lobby, highlighting SULAIR's services and resources. Participants will include dozens of campus libraries, Special Collections, the Media MicroText Center, SULAIR in Second Life, CourseWork and many more.
We'll have tours of Green Library (led by Michael Keller), and of the Robotic Book Scanner, as well as short presentations on SULAIR in Second Life, the Google Books project, and more. There will be music, movies, and great raffle prizes.

3. Stanford Offers Annual Publishing on the Web Workshop in November
Nowhere are changes happening faster than on the Web. To help keep magazine, book, association and corporate communications professionals abreast of these changes, Stanford Publishing Courses is again offering its Publishing on the Web workshop on November 16-19 in Monterey, California.

"In this intense three-day workshop, we cover a lot of ground," says Holly Brady, director of Stanford Publishing Courses. "The latest thinking in user-generated content, site design, business strategies, editorial practices, legal issues, new technologies, video podcasts, online advertising, SEO, blogging - these issues and more together form a curriculum that's both in-depth and wide-ranging."
Publishing on the Web is taught by a distinguished faculty of media professionals. They include Susan West and Michael Gold, West Gold Editorial; Kevin McKean, VP/editorial director of Consumer Reports; Sean Nolan, director of Men's Health; Matt Cohen, CEO and founder of OneSpot; Molly Wood, executive editor of CNET.com; Rand Fishkin, CEO of SEOmoz.com; Scott Karp, founder of the Publishing 2.0 blog; and Cody Simms, senior director of product management for Yahoo.
One of the top features of the workshop is a session in which each participant's site is user-tested and critiqued by a small group of colleagues working under the guidance of content and design specialists. Participants will return to their offices with pages of notes on how to improve their site and extend their brand throughout the Web.
STAP funds are accepted. For more information about Publishing on the Web, email Melissa Vallejo at Mvallejo@stanford.edu or go to:

5. Will Wheeler Takes New Position at Georgetown University Library
As some of you already know, Will Wheeler left SULAIR on September 2, to become the Head of Reference and Instruction at Georgetown University Library in Washington, D.C.
First, I want to thank Will for his contributions to SSRG and SULAIR. In particular, I have found Will's insights and analysis of library services, and how various options might develop in the future, a valuable contribution to our work. On behalf of the entire SSRG, I want to wish Will the very best as he takes on his new role at Georgetown.
Second, I want to let you know the temporary subject selector assignments in the SSRG. Tony Angiletta will cover Psychology and Sociology. John Rawlings will cover Anthropology and Communications. Also, James Jacobs is covering U.S. and State documents. In all cases, these are temporary additional assignments, and everyone is continuing with existing bibliographic assignments. I want to thank Tony, John, and James for taking on these additional assignments on an interim basis.
