1. Reference Forum - Tuesday, September 22, 2-3PM

Please join us for a special Reference Forum on Tuesday, September 22, 2-3pm in the IC Classroom, which is located behind the IC Desk in the East Wing of Green Library. (See map, where the IC Classroom is labeled "Instruction Room.")

Learn about the Congressional Research Digital Collection (CRDC) and how you can use it to assist students with their public policy research. CRDC is the combination of CRS reports (from 1916 to present) and Committee Prints (from 1830 to present) in LexisNexis Congressional (and LN Academic too!). Andrea Sevetson from LexisNexis will be presenting and answering any questions you have on this, or any other LexisNexis product.

If you would like to be on the email distribution list for future Reference Forum announcements, please go to https://mailman.stanford.edu/mailman/listinfo/libref-forum and Subscribe to the list.

2. SULAIR News Is Moving to Drupal!

Effective October 1, 2009, SULAIR News will move to SULAIR's drupal site, making it easier to submit articles and to maintain the publication. Instead of submitting articles for a weekly issue, you will be able to submit articles daily. Once you've submitted your article and the SULAIR News editor has reviewed it, it will be published on the new SULAIR News site (usually by the next working day after it has been submitted, at the latest).

We will continue to send out a weekly email announcement each Wednesday. It will include the linked titles of all articles published since the previous Wednesday. You can also set up an RSS Feed for SULAIR News articles, so you can see any new articles as they are published.

The SULAIR News drupal site will include instructions on how to submit an article and how to be notified about new articles. It will also include a Back Issues page that links to previous issues of SULAIR News.

Until October 1, you can continue to submit your articles in the usual way. There will be two more weekly issues, on September 23 and September 30.

3. David Platt Appointed Classics Bibliographer

I'm pleased to announce that David Platt has been appointed the new SULAIR Bibliographer for Classics. John Mustain, former Classics Bibliographer, now devotes 100% of his time to Special Collections in Green Library. David assumed his duties June 15, working closely with John during a period of transition over the summer.

David received his Ph.D. in Classics from Stanford in 2008. His dissertation was titled A Cultural Studies Approach to Roman Public Libraries: Social Negotiation, Changing Spaces, and Euergetism. He received his M.Sc. in Archaeology and Ancient History of Disease from University College London, with a B.A. (Honors) in Ancient History and Archaeology from the University of Wales, Lampeter.

David began his SULAIR career as the Evening Supervisor in the Art & Architecture Library in 2005 and was promoted to Operations Manager in 2007. He will continue as the Art Operations Manager 30 hours a week while he fulfills his Classics Bibliographer responsibilities at 10 hours a week. David curated the Spring 2009 exhibition at the Art Library, "Elements of Interpretation: Intersections Between Archaeological Fragments, Art, and Audience." The exhibition considered different strategies that visual artists have used in representing the fragmentary remains of the past.
